Starting Your Project

Step1

I used my Cutter as it has straight lines and groves, I found this was so easy to help score my lines

Step 1a
Place one 12" x 5" piece of cardstock, Position the cardstock horizontally with the left edge at the ¾" mark to the left of the 0 center

Step1b
move it so the 0 in now on the ¾ mark and Use a Scoring Tool and make the first score line.

Step1c
Turn the cardstock over and position it so the score line just made lines up at the ¾" measurement to left of the 0 center. Make another score line at this point

Step 1d
Continue turning the cardstock over and scoring every ¾" to the end of the cardstock.

Step2
Accordion-fold the scored cardstock. The raised score lines should be folded to the inside. Use a bone folder on each fold for a crisp, professional look.
Repeat for the second piece of cardstock. Set both accordion spines aside while you work on the cover.

TIP: Before moving to the next step be sure to mark all of your Chipboard pieces. This will insure that all pieces end up in the proper placement in the folder cover.

Step3
Mark and then Draw a line 1½" from one long edge of the BACK chipboard with Ruler. This is the glue guideline.

Squeeze a spiral of Adhesive in the 1½" area and spread to the edge.

Step4
Position your chosen paper on the edge of the glue guideline from Step 3 with a ¾" margin at each side of the chipboard. Making sure you have the sides even

Now adhere you next piece of chosen paper to the back making sure that it is all even

Step5
Turn your work over so that the chipboard is face up on the work surface, place your other pices of chipboard in their right positions,The photo shows placement of the book boards, not the 1/8" gutters.

adhere one SPINE of chipboard on each side of the BACK , leaving a 1/8" gutter between each. I did this by using two pieces of the chipboard stuck together place it up against the chipboard then place pushed the spine up against it. You must make sure you space it right as the paper will split open when you fold it up later

Adhere the FLAP piece of chipboard to the right of the right SPINE of your chipboard. Adhere the FRONT chipboard to the left of the left SPINE chipboard. Position a ruler at the bottom of the BACK chipboard to insure that all book boards are ¾" from the bottom edge of the cover cardstock.

Step6
Mitre the corners. I did this by placing the two pices of chipboard up against one corner of the chipboard. Draw a pencil line across the corner. This marks a cut line 1/8" from the corner of the book board. This will allow enough paper to cover the corners neatly. Repeat for the three remaining corners. Trim each corner just outside the mark.

Step7
Score the paper around all four sides of the chipboard. Wrap the cardstock flaps around the chipboard. Apply a thin layer of Adhesive to one long flap. Spread the adhesive to the edge of your paper flap with a foam brush. Wrap the flap around the chipboard and press the edge flat. Repeat with the other long flap.
Use a bone folder to tuck in the paper flaps that extend beyond the edge of the remaining corners, similar to wrapping a package. Apply Adhesive from to the short flaps and wrap the cardstock flaps around the chipboard. Smooth all flaps with the bone folder

Step8
Adhere your chosen ribbon to the BACK of your chipboard, about 1½" from the right edge of the chipboard—this ribbon should be placed on the inside of the cover

Step9
Cover the inside of the book/file folder with your chosen papers, When adhering the inside papers, use the pad of your finger to smooth the papers into the gutters between the book boards. Take your time for a neat, professional look. Set aside.

Step10

Create the file folder. Position the two accordion spines from Step 2 above horizontally in front of you on the work surface. Be sure the inside folds are valley folds.

Step11
Apply a thin bead line of glue to the right and left edge of one of the 5" x 7" Plain cardstock pieces. Spread the adhesive to the edge

Turn the Plain cardstock over and place the glued edge in the valley fold of one of the accordion spines—making sure the top and bottom edges are even with the accordion spine. Place the other glued edge in the first valley fold of the other accordion spine. Be sure the edges are placed all the way into the valley folds, and all edges are even.

Continue adhering the eight remaining 5" x 7" Plain cardstock pages. Always adhere the pages to the same side of the valley fold as the first page was adhered.

The last 5" x 7" page is adhered to the front of the accordion spines to finish the Expandable Files. Be sure to line the edges up as each page is adhered

Step12
Apply swirls of Adhesive to the back page of the File Folder. Spread the glue with the chisel tip foam brush and adhere to the BACK —be careful to place the File Folder on the BACK chipboard or your Expanding File Folder won’t close properly.

Step13
Apply Adhesive to the inside FRONT chipboard and spread with the foam brush. Fold up and over to adhere the FRONT book board to the File Folder. Be sure the first file folder is adhered to the front well.
Set aside to dry thoroughly

Step14
Once your file folder is completely dry you can then add some little legs if you like, for this I just used some large metal shank buttons I had in my stash

I cut the shanks of then used my craft knife to make sure the surfice was flat
Then adhered them to the bottom of my file folder

Step15
While it is drying you can aslo play with what ever you’re going to embellish your folder with
I used
Collections Elements Chipboard - Fleur de Lis & Scrolls
Available here
http://www.123scrapbook.com.au/category436_1.htm
Which I painted with
Making Memories Paint - Funky Vintage - Razzleberry and
Making Memories Paint - Harvest - Grapevine
Available here
http://www.123scrapbook.com.au/category217_1.htm
I covered a chipboard heart with the
Rose Moka Diva - Amoureuse
I then run them thru the cuttlebug
And added some metallic rub-ons

Adhere your embellishments
close the Expanding File Folder, bring the ends of the ribbon around to the front and tie in a bow.

Congratulations
You’ve just completed your Expanding Memories project, but the fun doesn’t stop there!
You can use the scraps to make a smaller one This one fits ATC have a go it is fun hope to see some of these in the Gallery Girls Enjoy and Happy Scrapping.
